There are very few conservation designations within the group area. Ben Chonzie SSSI is the only large upland site although there are a number of small woodland SSSI sites around the periphery of the group. The SSSI woods at Comrie also carry the SAC designation. The River Almond which cuts right in to the heart of the DMG area is part of the River Tay SAC, as is Loch Tay to the north. There are National Scenic Area (NSA) landscape designations at Dunkeld, and to the west of Comrie. Much of the DMG area is considered as very remote and unspoiled and an important tourist route cuts through the area on its way to Aberfeldy and on to Pitlochry.
